Some Quick basics:
If you own a gas or oil warm air furnace you can save huge money by upgrading to a high efficiency unit that is 90% or better, You can also have a whole house humidifier installed which will dramatically increase comfort and actually keep your home warm longer, because the water molecules (which retain the heat) in the air are more dense than air molecules. Todays gas warm air furnace should last at least 50 years and is a long term commitment. We beg you to choose the highest efficient furnace which will save thousands of dollars over a lifetime and help send less pollutants into the environment.
If you own a gas or oil hot water boiler you can save huge money by upgrading to a boiler that has a low water content (5 gallons compared to 15-30 gallons), high efficiency (84% or higher compared to 78%-80%). We also highly recommend installing a Smart control like a Outdoor Reset Control (shown in the picture) or a Heat Manager computer which boast 10 - 20% savings on fuel. One more item we highly Recommend is a stainless steel Indirect Water Heater. These Indirect water heaters are tied onto your boiler like a zone of heat which heats a coil inside the tank. The tank is so insulated that it saves big money on heating domestic hot water.
If you own a gas, oil or electric water heater throw it out. Its robbing you of fuel and money. Due to huge heat loss from the flue or the expense of electricity these dinosaurs should be brought to the scrap yard for recycling. Even if you keep electric you should switch to a instantaneous type and if you have gas or oil you should switch to a small indirect water heater or a instantaneous gas water heater if you have a furnace.
If you are undecided on your choice of heating system think of this. A Hot water system (Boiler) will save you about 20% over a Warm air System (Furnace) because of the heat loss from the duct work. And you can't have a indirect water heater which will save you more money over a typical water heater. Our guess would be about $300.00 per year of a typical home with 2 adults and 2 children just on the heating of water alone.
